August 2010 Well, well, well. I have joined the 21st Century! I am now on Facebook. There's a link on my Information Page. Join me. I'd like to know about you and your life passions!
____________ I'm pleased to announce that my work will be included in the 4th Sacred Art Exhibit at the Pastoral Center of the Catholic Diocese of Austin. The exhibition will be August 20, 2010 to February 18, 2011. The Pastoral Center is located at 6225 E. Hwy.290 in Austin, Texas and is open to the public 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. I am very happy to have been chosen to be a part of this exhibit, a wonderful gift from the Austin Diocese. I hope the display encourages an ever widening appreciation for the liturgical arts. If you're in the area, please make a point to visit.
____________ July 2010 This month I begin my blog. I call it Shadolinc. You can find a link to it on the bottom of my website's homepage. You may also find it at http://shadowlinc.com. Shadow is the name of the Black Friesian horse that I ride in my visualizations. Shadow takes me to the wonderful world of ideas and inspirations. I hope I can share some of that joy with you through Shadolinc. It's going to be a wonderful journey! Please bear with me as I work to incorporate this into my regular routine. I am excited about sharing with you a deeper understanding and appreciation for what it is that I do in the studio, but there are bound to be some blips along the way as I get the hang of this. Of course, your comments and suggestions are always most welcome.
____________ June 2010 Welcome to Summer! Just in case you thought you knew everything: Mosquito repellents don't repel. They hide you. The spray blocks the mosquito's sensors so they don't know you're there. Now -- Go enjoy the outdoors!
____________ May 2010 Man In The Moon© is being delivered to the foundry this month for casting. This limited edition sculpture will be a showcase of bronze, stainless steel & extruded high-tensil aluminum. You may order Man In The Moon© at a 30% pre-cast savings from now until Number 1 of the edition is issued (approximately September 15, 2010). Please email concerning payment and delivery details as well as any other questions you may have. Please see the top gallery to review this exciting contemporary work as it took shape in the Studio. There are also a couple of specification views for you.
____________ April 2010 This month I am introducing "Guest Commentaries." The initial article is from the Winter 2010 issue of American Arts Quarterly. See The Unbearable Vacuum of Kitsch by James F. Cooper in the Information Section.
____________ Also on my website's homepage (next to "Information") is a YouTube link to a video on the installation and dedication of Veterans Monument©, a sculpted brick project that I completed for the City of North Richland Hills TX. Veterans Monument© is installed in Liberty Park. The video is 7 minutes. I hope you enjoy it.
____________ March 2010 The Fort Worth Bonsai Society and the Lone Star Bonsai Federation are sponsoring the "Cowtown Bonsai Convention" in Fort Worth TX, June 11-13, 2010. I have four small Native Texan wildlife sculptures that I am making available at an introductory price for a short time (through June 13, 2010) to help support the building of the new Texas State Bonsai Exhibit, located just east of Austin in Mustang Ridge TX. These sculptures are available in bronze or resin.
____________ Sarah Hornberger, one of my private students, had her Western Art Contest award winning sculpture auctioned off for more than $10,000.00 in scholarship funds at this year's San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Congratulations!
____________ The original clay model of Man In The Moon© has been completed. Now, the mould and fabrication process begins in earnest. I am hopeful that we'll see an early Summer debut. I began sculpting Man In The Moon© last October on-site at Starbucks' Quarry Village location in San Antonio at their invitation. It was a most enjoyable 3 weekends of modeling and talking with the Starbucks customers about the sculpting process. Starbucks wants me to display the completed work when it's ready. I hope to work out a schedule that allows that to happen.
____________ February 2010 I am pleased to announce that one of my private students, Sarah Hornberger, is a scholarship award winner in this year's San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo's annual Western Art Contest. Sarah placed 4th among more than 600 entries (her work was the highest placed sculpture). In addition to her scholarship award, Sarah will be invited to apply for a scholarship to the 3-week Western Art Academy at the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville TX. Congratulations! ____________ I have learned that my current commission work for the City of Frisco TX will be installed at the new addition of the City Hall Complex. Fabric of Frisco© was originally going to be the entrance piece to the city's planned sculpture park. Those plans have been put on hold, but I am pleased with the new venue.
____________ The original clay model of Man In The Moon© is quickly moving toward completion. My collaborator in this project is Jeff Bonner R&D, a highly regarded solutions innovator for the aerospace industry. I am really excited about this design, a wonderful melding of the worlds of high tech and tradition.
